Can Kindness Change the World?

December 22, 20252 min read

This week’s Question Quest feels just right for the holiday season:

❓ Can kindness change the world?

It sounds like a huge question, but really kindness starts very small: with a smile, a helpful hand, or a gentle word. And kids understand kindness far better than adults sometimes. They feel it and offer it so naturally.

So let’s slow down and explore how kindness works, how it spreads, and why it matters more than we realise.

🛠️ M – MAKE: A Secret Act of Kindness

This week, invite your young Knowmads to do one small act of kindness… in secret. No praise, no fuss, no “look what I did!”, just a quiet spark of good in the world. Here are a few simple ideas:

Kindness Rock:

Paint a pebble with a cheerful picture or a hopeful word (“smile”, “hope”, “you matter”) and leave it somewhere for someone to find.

Kindness Note:

Write a short message and hide it in a library book, on a park bench, in a shop basket, or even on a neighbour’s doorstep.

Something tiny like: “I hope today is kind to you” or “You’re doing great.”

Secret Help:

Tidy something without being asked. Make someone’s bed. Leave a treat or little doodle for a sibling.

The best part is not being caught. The real magic is knowing a tiny act can brighten someone’s day more than you’ll ever know.

💬 A – ASK: How Does Kindness Spread?

Kindness is simple, but very powerful. Here are a few gentle questions to explore together:

  • What counts as kindness? Does it have to be big?

  • How does it feel when someone is kind to you?

  • Does one kind thing make you want to do another?

  • Can kindness change someone’s day? Or their choices?

  • Can kindness change a community? Or even the world?

You can look at examples from history, stories, films, or even your own life.

💛 P – PAUSE: You Deserve Kindness Too

Here’s something we adults forget far too easily:

Kindness isn’t only something we give to others.

It’s something we need too.

And sometimes the person we forget to be kind to… is ourselves.

So this week, try a little self-kindness, like:

✨ A softer voice in your own head.

✨ A pause before pushing through.

✨ A warm drink in peace.

✨ A simple meal instead of a perfect one.

✨ A moment to breathe.

When you feel cared for (even by your own hands), everything in the day feels a little lighter.

And you model to your children what self-compassion looks like in real life.

I wish you and your family a joyful and kindness-filled Christmas time.
